Who Gets the Food?

We collect thousands of pounds of food every two months. Where does it go?

One question that many Food Project donors have is: “Where does the food go? Which food banks should get it?” In Talent, as of February 2017, it goes to the local food bank at the Talent Community Hall located at 206 E. Main Street in Talent, OR. Hours: Thursdays 11am-1:30pm.

The importance of this effort is clear when you realize that more people are in need of emergency food supplies than ever before. About 22,000 Jackson County residents received emergency food in 2011!

As Philip Yates, Nutrition Director of ACCESS, explains: “Some people wonder whether food recipients in our area are just taking advantage of the community’s generosity. That couldn’t be further from the truth. Close to half the families we serve have at least one person working. Many of the rest are out of work and can’t find jobs. The majority of people we serve just don’t earn enough money to cover their basic expenses.”
